Honolulu Day 1 & 2

I arrived at Honolulu airport and immediately had to take off the two top layers of long sleeved tops, t-shirt only required. Yippee!!! Then I had to take off the runners and socks, as that was too hot. Out came the flip-flops at the bus stop and rolled up my pant legs. I’m glad I bought these khakis that have a roll-up and button-up hem. Much better in this 26 degree heat.

The breeze was warm and smelled wonderful.

I took the city bus from the airport to where I’m staying. Midway through the trip an amazing thing happened, who do I see on the bus, but dear friends from Toronto whom I hadn’t seen since 2000. They were the pastors of the church I attended and were here until Thursday. Amazing. We made plans to spend the next day together.

After checking in at my accommodation, I trotted across the street to the Ala Moana Centre to pick up some necessary supplies...sunscreen, water, and toothbrush (yep, forgot mine at home). After wandering around looking at the shops for a bit, I headed back to my room changed and went directly to the beach. Ahhh glorious sun and warmth. I spent a couple hours basking and reading. This was a great beach to watch the sunset, but that will be for another day. I was starting to fade fast. Having been up early, travelling, and the 3 hour time difference, it was time to start packing it in for the day.

I did manage to find some free internet access at Barnes & Noble booksellers in the Ala Moana Centre. So before hitting the sack, I bought a cup of tea and sat there and checked email and facebook. Proper posting had to wait, I was pooped.

I was up early day two and met Angela & Milton just before 9am. We had a lovely day together walking along the beach, through Waikiki shops and caught up on everything that has been happening in our lives over the last 11 years. It was such a lovely surprise to see them, and such a treat to have the day with them.

After our good-byes, I looked through some more of the shops, bought a few groceries, and headed back to my place and headed to the beach.

The beach didn’t last long as it clouded over so I headed back to change and make my way over to the free wifi.

A bit frustrated with laptop use here. Where I am staying is a really old building, so the outlets in my room are only two prong. Which means I cannot plug my laptop in to charge it. No problem I think to myself, I’ll just plug in at Barnes & Noble when I get my tea and access the internet. Wrong! They have no public outlets in the store. Which means a quick post before my battery runs out. UGH!!! This means I’m going to have to plug in at the lobby where I’m staying and sit while my laptop charges. Very frustrating. I’ll have to seek alternate means to access and plug in.

So that’s the end of day two.
