A famous tourism attraction in South sulawesi, Indonesia, here it is the Bantimurung waterfall. Here, we can enjoy a freshening water and natural view around the waterfall, there are two cave, butterfly museum, and others. The waterfall of Bantimurung has amount 20 metres in width and 15 metres in high. The water is always clear and cool glide from the top of rock mountain to the bottom swiftly along year-round.
You can also take a bath under the waterfall because there are a bathing area had formed by foundation of hard limestone and covered with a layer of minerals due to the flow of water for hundreds of years. The depth of water in the bath area was between ankle to waist. Beside that, in left side of waterfall is concrete stairs about 10 metres in high which is the road to two caves that surround the waterfall, which is the Cave of Dreams and Batu Caves. Before the play of water, you can visit these two caves.
Besides having a stunning waterfall, Waterfall tourist area of Bantimurung also a habitat for many species of rare butterflies, so that the Dutch colonists once call this place as the "Kingdom of Butterfly." Even the British Naturalist, Alfred Rassel Wallace ever stay here for a year (1856-1857) to do a research for 150 of rare butterfly.
Until Nowadays, you still can see the beautifull butterfly with a various species flying around the bush that covered the Rock Mountain. But unfortunately these butterflies are not too much like as before.The waterfall of Bantimurung is located not far from Hasanuddin airport, in Bantimurung sub-district, district Maros, it is about 45 kilometres from Makassar, in karst Maros area,South Sulawesi. It is about 20 kilometres, and 15 kilometres from Maros city, 50 kilometres from Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi. From Makassar, it is about an hour to reach the destination. Exactly, from Hasanudin airport the trip can be taken by mikrolet (a public transport) or Tourism Bus about 30 minutes. Happy journey.
