Ullen Sentalu Museum

The word of ‘Ullen Sentalu’ is acronym of the Java language that is ‘Ulating Blencong Sejatining Tataraning Lumaku’, if translated roughly mean ‘the Light of Life for Human Journey’.

Museum Ullen Sentalu was construction using stone mountain is located on the region of Kaliurang, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It was established in 1994 and officially inaugurated on March 1, 1997, to save the works of ancient batik seeked by the foreign collectors.

This Museum provides knowledge about history of Javanese culture, particularly those related to the kings of Yogyakarta and Surakarta. The museum contains the history of the royal culture of Solo and Yogyakarta.

From the outside, the museum has seen its uniqueness. Large Stone-walled of building fused with lush trees and vines that stretched to reach the roof. Entering the gate, visitors will be greeted by lush gardens, again with big trees. Completely overgrown and ancient environment.

This museum has two main buildings, which are Guwa Selo Giri (basement), and village of Kambang. village of Kambang it self is still divided into five buildings which are Sekar Kedaton room, room of Yogyakarta wedding style , room of Yogyakarta-Surakarta batik, room of Pesisiran Batik, and room of dream princes. In this building, there are many collection of batik, traditional Javanese clothes (kebaya), script, paintings and etc.

The museum is very thick with the aura of a woman. Perhaps because of this museum as to show the identity of the palace women who has not known many people and a mystery to others. Not many people know the existence, even for the people of Yogyakarta though.

Pekalongan is a name of a city in Indonesia. Located in Central Java Province. Precisely, 101 km west of Semarang. Semarang is the capital of Central Java Province.

In Indonesia, Pekalongan city known as ‘Batik Town’, because in Pekalongan, batik production is so beautiful and varied. Well, batik pekalongan already known to foreign countries.

In Pekalongan city precisely in Jetayu Street No. 1, on the city square area, there is a museum of batik. Here you can find various kinds of batik from time to time or learn more about Indonesian batik varied.

This Museum officially opened on 12th of July 2006 by Republic Indonesia President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Pekalongan batik museum collection is very interesting, because you can see the 100 years old ancient batik and there are also batik collections from from various regions in Indonesia.

One of them is from Sumatera, batik from Sumatra stout influenced by Islam culture which looks from the motifs that resemble the Arabic script calligraphy.

This museum is also completed with an administration room, a storage and conservation room, a meeting room and a Batik Art Shop where visitors can buy various kinds of souvenirs made of batik.
